Guild Wars 1.5
One of the things Anet has been bragging about for GW2 is their new engine which allows them to do a lot more with the game. So I was thinking why not add another team and redo GW1 with the new engine? They could also use that as an excuse to fix some problems, add some new features, swap in and out some skills, and that sort of thing.

So you want them to add the jumping/swimming/underwater stuff into the game which would require them to cap off zones and seal glitches you can't reach by not being able to jump.... across every map in the game which would take months to do?

and we would end up with a massive delayed GW2, but if you want that to happen why not?

You don't know that. I seem to be saying that a lot lately.
I think fixing up Guild Wars as a whole with bugs, balancing, and a few helpful features would be enough.

its an interesting suggestions, but we dont really know if there will be enough man power to do an engine overhaul and whether it might slow GW2 or not, also redoing GW 1 wont bring back many people, so there basically upping the engine on a dying game.

With that attitude, you'd never buy a sequel to any game.
As for the suggestions, they are interesting but I don't believe it would be efficient to put in a new engine. That would take years in development and testing. Which is already being done...on GW2. I'm all for bug fixes, updates, new w/e but a new engine makes a new game and at this point...it's moot.

Whether it took time away from GW2 or not, it would take a LOT of time to put it into GW1. As noted, the maps were not designed with it in mind, and areas with borders based on an obstacle you may be able to jump over would cause problems. Plus, just swapping the engine won't work. All the maps, monsters, skills, etc. would need to be converted for it, and tested.
If they DID do something like this, it would cost them a pretty penny to do so. That would mean we would have to purchase it so they could afford to do it. And with the 2 engines being different, they wouldn't be able to allow it as an option, or they would have 2 separate GW1 games running, and people couldn't play with the ones on the other version. Forcing people to pay for an upgrade like that, or not be able to play would definitely hurt their future sales.
It won't happen. I may not be in on Anet staff meetings to know their thoughts, but I do know enough about the game industry to know they would never do this.

Try years... we might as well just say "destroy the game, remake it from scratch, but keep the storyline exactly the same" - no old players would buy it (and I highly doubt anet would do that for free transfer for existing characters), it would most likely ruin Anet.

I imagine that remaking a game with a whole new, or even improved engine would warrant it being made as a new game. Hence, GW2.

Using the new engine could break compatibility with current systems running the game and introduce a host of bugs.
Think of a house: Now remove the foundation and the frame while keeping the shell intact. That may be a poor analogy, but I don't see how the the effort, time, and expense involved in such a project could possibly recoup the expenses. I don't think it will generate sufficient revenue from new sales to justify development costs.
Also, GW2.

I was gonna say years but then I thought someone would refute that and just say months, lol. Years is probably much more accurate.

There is no way this is going to work in a matter of days/weeks as you almost suggest it is. /notsigned, there are better things to do with a year or two.

Developers showing me how well they can upkeep a game is my basis on buying anything else by them.
I used to play Rollercoaster Tycoon, it was a great game, I bought 2, 2 was a great game, I bought 3, It sucked, no more RCT.
I played DaggerFall, it was great, I bought Morrowind, it was great, I bought Oblivion, therefore I bought Shivering Isles and Fallout Series, both great, I'll continue.
Guild Wars was great at the start then it sunk, No Gw2 for me.

personally I would rather wait until gw2 comes out besides it will be easier and a cheaper route for them (however thats not what you want to hear but just being honest)

I never suggested it would take a few days or weeks.
I was thinking, and neglected stating, would be a whole new game where all the existing games would be redone and made more uniform. Graphics could be improved, maps tweaks, instanced zones might be gotten rid of (not for missions and dungeons, they'd still be instanced), the skills could be redone as needed, there would be a uniform system for bonus/expert on missions. That sort of thing. Maybe some expansions for cantha and NF.

So, in other words, waste a lot of resources for a massive overhaul with minimal profits expected?
Brilliant business there.
